Thanks Matt, I rarely ever search the internet after watching a movie but for this masterpiece I had to and boy you delivered! I knew my three hours wouldn't be worthwhile if I did not read about this.

Thanks Matt! I think you have a great knack for pulling out themes and subtext that I have a tendency of missing. That said, I found the experience of watching this movie sort of excruciating due to a lack of narrative thrust. Like you said, I guess it’s not plot driven so maybe that’s intentional in the filmmaking.

I wonder if injecting a little bit of mystery somehow would have helped. Maybe withhold some information until the end. It felt like we knew everything that was going on.

I feel like the mystery would be counterproductive. If this movie were from the FBI’s perspective, then sure, but since it’s from Ernest’s then we need to know what he knows. The focal point is the marriage, not the mystery.

That makes sense. In this case it’s probably just a matter of taste and me wanting the movie to be something it wasn’t intended to be. Maybe I’d enjoy more on a second viewing, knowing more about the movie’s goals.
