I wonder if injecting a little bit of mystery somehow would have helped. Maybe withhold some information until the end. It felt like we knew everything that was going on.

I feel like the mystery would be counterproductive. If this movie were from the FBI’s perspective, then sure, but since it’s from Ernest’s then we need to know what he knows. The focal point is the marriage, not the mystery.

That makes sense. In this case it’s probably just a matter of taste and me wanting the movie to be something it wasn’t intended to be. Maybe I’d enjoy more on a second viewing, knowing more about the movie’s goals.
