I watched every episode of the Clone Wars show (which was some of the best Star Wars ever) and every episode Rebels (which was some of the cheapest Star Wars ever, though it had its moments), and I’m here to say that those first two eps of Ahsoka were louuuuuuusy. Deathly boring even for the pre-converted. Animation works for SW because every frame has to be justified, but up the same characters to live action and they’re suddenly slow as a bantha. Franchise storytelling has a lot of problems but if the plot and pacing are dull, no amount of internal lore is gonna save it.

As someone who did watch the first two episodes of Ahsoka, it doesn’t feel like a coincidence that the most intriguing characters are the two red lightsaber-wielding baddies we’ve never met before. Also, you don’t seem to be missing much by not checking it out. So far Filoni seems pretty out of his element as a live-action director as every scene that doesn’t involve some kind of action element feels painfully dry and lifeless. It might improve over the next few episodes but based on what we saw with the Boba Fett and Kenobi shows, probably not. At least we still have Andor.
