Making movies is hard, but Lucasfilm has turned not making 'Star Wars' movies into an art.

Star Wars Celebration is this weekend. Disney holds the event every one or two years, and it typically features a whole bunch of announcements for upcoming Star Wars stuff. What’s made the events borderline comical is that Lucasfilm keeps signaling that there are new Star Wars movies on the way, and then those movies never happen. Next summer will be the first Star Wars movie since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (arguably the worst Star Wars movie ever made), and it’s The Mandalorian and Grogu, a spinoff of The Mandalorian TV series. That’s the big pitch: You’ve seen Baby Yoda at home; now pay money to see him on the big screen.

But at yesterday’s event, Lucasfilm announced Star Wars: Starfighter, a new film set after the Skywalker Saga. Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) will direct, and it will star Ryan Gosling. It’s even set for May 2027.

I’ll believe it when I see it. After the announcement, I decided to see how many other Star Wars projects were in development, and there have been quite a few over the years (via IGN):
