I am incredibly hopeful that the shortcomings of the big studios this year, and the success of indie darlings like Gerwig, ushers in an artistic resurgence like in the 70s. There’s a low cost to entry via streaming, and I’m cautiously optimistic that that somehow creates an art-first trend that studios capitalize on by financing. We could be on the cusp of something here.
